Sorrowful Poetry: The Legacy

Jan

This dark sorrowful poem was written as the announcement of Joe Paterno’s death was announced over the radio. While it is tough to say one act destroyed a legacy, it is a good lesson to those out there who worry about these things. Thanks for reading and enjoy.

The legacy left by one man can overcome many
However, the inactions of the man can unravel it
The thirst, quest, desire to be a legend can blind
Even those who want only the best can fall to it
The sirens call of resting on your laurels of glory

Standing aside and letting others use you
Drawing the line in the sand when none is required
Making a statement when it was never needed
All these things contribute to the hubris of man
Even legends must fall on the final day

The lesson here; make sure you stay right
Your legacy is not in your hands, but in others
Take care of yourself, mind your business
Glory, destiny, happiness will follow you
Even as your body slips away from this mortal coil
