Dark Love Flash Fiction: Butterfly Meadows

This exquisite piece of dark love and flash fiction is a mix of being overly tired and listening to the new Swallow the Sun track over and over again. I have to say, this piece surprised me. I hope you enjoy it.

I never saw it coming when she told me goodbye. The words felt like a knife as my heart sank to my ankles. She was leaving, today. No warning, no feasible way to fix the situation; a simple kiss on the cheek and a faint whisper through a curtain of tears.

I glanced at her gravestone and offered a weak smile as I patted the dirt. She would have liked it here. It was the last thing she said before she left as a monarch perched on her headstone.

“Please remember the butterfly meadows.”
