Dragon Knowledge: The Wayward Fantasy Poem

This whimsical piece of poetry was inspired by someone seeking knowledge in the ways of dragons that were not D&D/game inclined. I wondered what that would be like and applied it to this fantasy poem. Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoy!

I scan through the dusty tomes of yore
Knowledge is my quest, answers are my victory
I have seen the greatest histories and lore
From the seas of Timmon to the shores of Banali
There is one item that drives my heroic core
To search for those who are not migratory
They very in tone from gold, green and saffron
I speak, of course, of the once mighty dragon

They have disappeared from history’s embrace
Through being hunted, shunned and idolized
Once they soared across the heavens with grace
The villages, oh they were quite traumatized
Now there is no one left that can retrace
The ones who did not accept the world disguised
I seek the grail of holiness and fire
For the question is far too dire

What can the world do without dragons, you say?
We were better off without waking slumbering beast
Wanting to return to your safe homes, enjoy an idle day
There are so many species from Far West to modern East
The power they held kept kingdoms in check, gods in sway
Nations united against their scourge, to say the least
Why would I ask where a dragon is? Why would I care?
I want to find one so I won’t be so damned rare

  1. Great poem, I envy you my friend – been trying to grasp poetry for years and have consisently failed :(

    • It took me some time as well, but I had a great mentor (who insists she never mentored me, I just leeched her style) and kept going with it. I am glad you enjoyed my dragon poem though, I figured it would tickle somoen’s fancy
