Love Poetry: Edge of Darkness

This dark romantic love poem was inspired by a vision in my head while I was on my way back from shopping in the rain and listening to Katatonia’s “Passing Bird”. I have no idea who this is, I’ve never met anyone like this, but it was as vivid in my mind as if I did. Prophecy? Who knows. I hope you enjoy it and feel free to comment!
I watch you as you stand on the edge of darkness
Your silky chocolate hair with coffee highlights
Make your dusky eyes glitter with ancient fires
Casting your smoldering gaze over the roaring seas
Withdrawn in quiet introspection, resigned to fate
As the wind caresses your smooth ivory skin
I watch you as you spread your arms wide
Embracing the heavens with gentle care and affection
Your full, dark lips mouth the silent oaths
While the tears of regrets smear your ruddy cheeks
You throw your head back and howl in agony
Frustration boiling over from a question never answered
I pull away as you step back from the brink
Careful not to startle you with my watchful gaze
We have never met, but I know the pain you hold
They told you it would get better with time
No one has experienced the scars flayed on your soul
Hidden within an angel fallen from grace
Would that I could be a sun in your dark universe
But I am a black hole that will ruin your beauty
So I turn and walk away from you before I destroy you
Denied by my lack of confidence, void in my soul
I never seem to notice that you are watching me leave
Wanting me to step away from the darkness

Really like this; love the way in builds towards the tragedy at the end.
Thank you very much for visiting and I am glad you enjoyed this piece!
